Many people wonder who or what the Mona Lisa is actually modeled after.

Well, I read this article this morning, and wanted to see what you guys think.

The Mona Lisa Mona-Lisa

Is the most beautiful woman on paper actually a man?

Just like literary criticism, I think people are often looking for things that aren't there. They subconsciously invent something and "discover" it.

Same. There are those novels that are either overly detailed, or not detailed enough, and those usually end up becoming "classics".

On the topic of the Mona Lisa, I actually think it's a woman. It could possibly be a portrait of da Vinci himself, but I doubt it.

Wasn't da Vinci crazy? (Or am I thinking of someone else?) So it really could of been anything.

I noticed nobody ever considered a financial aspect. Why did Da Vinci paint? Why did Michelangelo sculpt? Why did Shakespeare write? Because a wealthy patron paid them to do it. There doesn't need to be inner turmoil or secret motives. Shakespeare was one of the richest men in England when he died, he made a fortune off his work.

It's easy to explain.

Leonardo was gay, but it was illegal, so he hid it by making this painting of his love a "woman".

Neither do I, although the painting and the painter himself raise some interesting discussion questions.
